Specialist Induction Melting & Molten Material Handling Equipment
We have been instructed by our client to offer for sale by private treaty two specialist items of melting and molten-material handling equipment. These items have become available because the two projects for which they were bought did not go ahead.
Our client is a materials technology company developing low-carbon construction materials from Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steel slag. Its process takes molten slag produced during electric steelmaking, rapidly granulates it and subsequently processes the material for use in cement and concrete production.
Available for sale are:
(1) a Meltech 200kW Furnace Power Pack with 350kg Duraline Tilting Induction Furnace, cooling pump and radiator, power pack and including switchgear for a second Duraline furnace. Our client has advised that the furnace was refurbished by Meltech in 2012, and
(2) a one-off 1 tonne capacity hydraulic Ladle Tilting Station, manufactured for our client for the controlled handling and pouring of molten slag, and supplied complete with ladle, tilting cradle, static frame, slewing lid, hydraulic cylinders, hydraulic power pack and control system.
These items are available separately.
Meltech 200kW Furnace Power Pack with 350kg Duraline Tilting Induction Furnace, cooling pump and radiator

A substantial 200kW induction melting furnace installation, originally manufactured by Inductotherm and, our clients advises, subsequently refurbished by Meltech in 2012.
The equipment comprises the main 200kW VIP furnace power panel, operator control equipment, hydraulically operated induction melting furnace and associated cooling and ancillary equipment.
Equipment Included
- Inductotherm / Meltech 200kW VIP furnace power panel
- VIP panel Serial No. 12490/1166
- Separate operator control module for operation of the melting furnace
- Hydraulically operated induction melting furnace
- Furnace capacity previously advised as approximately 350kg
- Approximate furnace vessel dimensions: 300mm diameter x 600mm high
- Meltech-badged chiller
- Meltech-badged skid-mounted water cooling unit
- Centrifugal extractor fan
- Associated electrical, hydraulic and cooling equipment
- Switchgear provision for a second Duraline furnace
Power & Control Equipment
The floor-standing power unit incorporates the 200kW VIP induction furnace power system, together with analogue instrumentation for frequency, kilowatts and AC voltage and monitoring of the furnace and cooling-water systems.
A separate operator control module is included for control of the melting furnace.
Furnace
The induction furnace is hydraulically operated, allowing controlled tilting and discharge of molten metal.
Cooling & Ancillary Equipment
The installation is supplied with its associated cooling equipment, including a Meltech-badged chiller and Meltech-badged skid-mounted water cooling unit, together with a centrifugal extractor fan.
Refurbishment
Our client advises that the furnace installation was refurbished by Meltech in 2012.
Additional Furnace Provision
The power equipment incorporates switchgear provision for a second Duraline furnace.

1 tonne capacity hydraulic Ladle Tilting Station

A substantial one-off 1 tonne capacity hydraulic ladle tilting station, designed and manufactured by Foundry Projects Ltd for the controlled handling and pouring of high-temperature molten slag.
The equipment was designed to receive liquid slag from an Electric Arc Furnace process at temperatures in the region of 1,600°C, and to provide a controlled discharge into a downstream launder and slag granulation system. The design provides for a controlled pouring rate of approximately 1kg to 5kg per second.
Equipment Included
The installation comprises:
- 1 tonne capacity fabricated ladle body
- Heavy-duty tilting cradle
- Fabricated static support frame
- Manual slewing lid and mechanism
- Main pivot shafts and bearings
- Two hydraulic cylinders
- Separate RS Fluid Power hydraulic power pack
- Separate electrical control panel with HMI
- Associated hydraulic valves, hoses and controls
The ladle body is bolted into the tilting cradle, allowing it to form part of the complete tilting assembly.
Capacity & Construction
- Nominal capacity: 1 tonne of slag
- Calculated vessel volume: approximately 0.369m³
- Designed slag density: approximately 3 tonnes/m³
- Ladle fabrication weight: approximately 500kg
- Estimated complete fabrication and component weight: approximately 3,100kg unlined
- Estimated refractory requirement: approximately 1,600kg
- Estimated total assembly weight with refractory: approximately 4,700kg excluding product
Approximate Overall Dimensions
- Length: 2,030mm
- Width: 1,480mm
- Height: 1,990mm
The tilting mechanism provides approximately 100° of rotation, allowing the contents of the ladle to be progressively discharged under hydraulic control.
Hydraulic System
The machine is operated hydraulically using a separate RS Fluid Power hydraulic power unit.
The system incorporates:
- 4kW three-phase electric motor
- Hydraulic reservoir
- Variable displacement hydraulic pump
- Pressure filtration
- Relief valve and control valve assembly
- Flow control equipment
- Two hydraulic operating cylinders
The hydraulic system operates the main ladle tilting function and allows the pouring speed to be adjusted to suit the process.
Control System
A separate electrical control panel is supplied with the installation and incorporates an HMI operator display.
Operating functions include:
- Emergency stop
- Reset
- Hydraulic power pack start / stop
- Automatic Pour
- Automatic Lower
- Manual Fast tilt
- Manual Slow tilt
- Adjustable pouring speeds through the HMI
In automatic pouring mode, the ladle tilts at a predetermined adjustable speed until reaching the end of its upward stroke. Manual Fast and Slow controls can also be used to position the ladle accurately before commencing the controlled pour.
Ladle & Slewing Lid
The fabricated ladle body has an internal diameter of approximately 1,050mm, with a separately fabricated slewing lid arrangement.
The slewing lid assembly incorporates its own supporting structure, bearings and operating mechanism and has an approximate combined weight of 350kg.
The equipment is offered complete with the ladle tilting assembly, hydraulic power pack and control panel as shown.
