Setting up an auction – 1 – What is involved in preparing assets for sale?

The job of an auctioneer should, we believe, involve far more than just taking a few images and uploading them to the internet…

… Because the proper preparation of assets is vital if we are to maximise our client’s realisations, indeed if in a number of instances we are to achieve a sale.

So what’s involved in such preparation?

Let’s take a real life example of ours…

Before After

It’s hard to believe that this is the same robot, but it is.

On the Before image you will see our tools of trade – not particularly sophisticated, a few protection and cleaning materials – and on the After image, after a few hours of hard work, you see the fruits of our labour. And neither image has been enhanced in any way, they are exactly as the machine is, one is a little lighter because it’s later in the day…

You see our job as auctioneers is to best present your surplus assets to the market, and to do so often involves getting our hands dirty. That way you get the best price.

Let me ask you a question…

If you had a choice, which robot would you buy? The one on the left or the one on the right?

Of course, all things being equal, it would be the one on the right… and that is one of the reasons we are told our sale success rates are high for the industry we are in.
